Welcome to West Hagley Football Club
West Hagley have been established since 1960 when a group of local players formed a team in order to play against other sides in the area on a friendly basis before entering into league football.
In 1977 a second team was introduced which produced an overall group of 25 players playing within the Birmingham A.F.A. League.
Both teams achieved moderate success until in 1999 – 2000 the first team won the Double of the Birmingham A.F.A. aswell as The Birmingham Intermediate Cup. This led to the team moving into The Midland Combination and subsequently winning the league at the first attempt in 2001.
Meanwhile in 1995 Mike Thorpe and Kelvin Webster formed a junior section which comprised of ten boys being coached on Hagley Park each Saturday Morning. By 1999 the number had risen to nearly sixty boys and girls taking part with the club being invited to play at Wembley during half time of the League Cup Final.
The last ten years have seen tremendous growth with the club now consisting of around four hundred players fifty two coaches and twenty six teams playing competitively.
In 2005 the club was awarded Charter Standard Community Club status by the F.A. and in 2006 won the F.A. ‘Club of the Year’ Award.
As a club the onus is always put behind the coaching and development of players and not simply the winning of games. The fact that the club have won twenty one trophies in the last seven years alone is an indication of our attention to this coaching philosophy.
Now linked to West Bromwich Albion as an official Development Club it provides our best players with an exit route to Academy football as well as being able to work in other areas with a Premiership Club.
We currently have eight players signed by professional clubs with ages ranging from eight to sixteen together with having two players sign professional contracts over the course of the last twelve months.
If your son or daughter would like to join West Hagley then please ring our Secretary Angie Prentis on 01562 882767 and we will be delighted to forward an application form.
