Three days, so many memories: our August summer camp recap

Our summer camp is officially done and honestly, we’re still not over it!! From the 12th-14th of August we had girls through the doors for three days packed with games, sport, arts & crafts and just an all round brilliant time. Across these three days we worked our way through a mix of activities so the girls got to try a range of new things, build confidence and just have fun.

Sports & movement:

  • Football - The girls kicked things off with some football activities and football rounders to get everyone warmed up and settled in.

  • Boxing with Coach Ayesha - A quick boxing lesson to mix things up (we do love a bit of variety!!), plus a Q&A with Coach Ayesha about her experience boxing.

  • Dance with Coach Katy - The girls learnt a choreographed dance before making up some of their own moves.

  • Cycling with British Cycling’s GEMS programme - GEMS is a cycling programme designed for girls aged 7-11, all about building confidence, friendships and fun. The girls got stuck into all the drills, listened to all the info, designed their own cycling jerseys and smiled the whole way through.

  • Coaches vs girls football match - Because who doesn’t love a little bit of competition? Your guess of the final score is as good as ours, but one thing is for certain, it was a blast!!

Creative & downtime sessions:

  • Bracelet making.

  • Yoga.

  • Dobble.

  • Building our own forts.

  • Letters to our future selves.

  • A classic game of “Heads down, Thumbs up” - This one deserves its own mention because every single time we tried to move onto something else, the girls just told us they wanted to keep playing this!!

Every session we run at Our Goal CIC blends physical activity with sit-down, creative or group activities, because we’ve seen first-hand how well this combination works for engaging girls. They get to move their bodies and pick up new skills, then switch gears into crafts that give them space to be creative and connect, both with themselves and with each other.

The coaches who made it happen:

A huge THANK YOU to the brilliant team of coaches who supported the girls:

  • Coach Ruby

  • Coach Joy

  • Coach Ayesha

  • Coach Katy

  • Coach Violet

  • Coach Olivia

And an extra special THANK YOU to Coach Ruby, whose continuous planning and dedication behind the scenes made this camp possible in the first place.

We're incredibly proud to run our camps with this team of strong and inspiring women. Girls can turn up to our sessions and see so many young women around them in leadership and coaching roles. That's exactly what makes our sessions at Our Goal so special.

Cycling with British Cycling - THANK YOU

We were so grateful to be joined by British Cycling, who came down to deliver one of their GEMS sessions with the girls, a 12-week cycling programme that's deliberately different from the rest. It's not about racing or being the best, it's built around confidence, friendships and having fun, with games-based, inclusive sessions delivered locally through schools, clubs and community organisations, making it low-cost, accessible and scalable nationwide, with one clear aim: girls finish thinking that cycling is fun and "for them”.

Orla, Women & Girls Strategic Lead at British Cycling, had this to say:

"The GEMS session at the Our Goal holiday camps perfectly captured the power of cycling. As the day progressed, the girls built confidence, strengthened friendships, and discovered a sense of belonging within the cycling community - we hope this continues long after the session!

At British Cycling, our ambition is for every girl to experience the joy of cycling, and this summer's camp brought that vision to life. A huge thank you to Our Goal for partnering with us and helping create such a memorable and enjoyable day for everyone involved."

Thank you to the whole GEMS team for such a brilliant, well-run session and for bringing so much energy, positivity and expertise to camp. We can't wait to see what's next as GEMS officially launches in 2027!!

Thank you to everyone who came along to summer camp and to everyone who helped make it happen!! We can't wait for the next one - make sure you're following us on socials to stay up to date with everything we've got coming up!!
